God is glorified when we give

MEET Sifan

Sifan (see-fah-n) is such a sweet young girl who has so much potential. We are so blessed to be able to learn from her faithful heart for Jesus. Sifan has big dreams and is praying God uses her future to impact more people who are living in poverty.

Watch the video (read the subtitles for your little kiddos) and then discuss Sifan’s story together.

How do you think Sifan felt when she didn’t eat for 3 days?

Without eating our bodies don’t have the energy or strength we need.

Why doesn’t Sifan have to worry anymore?

She has everything she needs now! Sifan doesn’t have to wonder if she will have food to eat.

Sifan has compassion for the children who are living on the street. How does she want to help them?

Sifan wants to become a doctor so she can care for the people who don’t have money for healthcare.

Ethiopia uses its own calendar that is 7 years behind the rest of the world.

Most hospitals are in the capital, Addis Ababa. It would be so helpful if Sifan were a doctor for her town of Bako.

Addis Ababa is the highest capital city in Africa at 7,726 feet above sea level.

Matthew 25: 35,36,40

(the words of Jesus) ‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Who are we giving to when we care for the poor?

When you care for someone who is sad and in need how do you think they feel?

What are some ways your family can give food to those who are hungry or thirsty?

God is glorified when we give

Isn’t it awesome that when we give to those in need we are actually showing love to Jesus? We can all be used in different ways to feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, provide clothes for those who are without, and show the love of God to those around us and around the world. Jesus loves the children who have little and the children who have much. His love is for everyone no matter what, and because of his love we can share it with others!

Close in prayer

Father, thank you for loving each one of us and taking care of our needs. Please show us how we can give to those who are hungry, thirsty and in need. We pray that Sifan would remember that she is loved and provided for. We praise you that she doesn’t have to worry anymore and neither do we! Amen.

Print out the activity sheet. For younger kids, color in the images, cut on the dotted lines and make a picture of a child’s needs.

Older kids, write out your needs and wants. Ask God to show you how you can give to someone who has a need.
